We’re a little sad to see the Fotoweek festival winding down. Today is the final day of the first city-wide celebration of photography and with so much left to see, here is the rundown of today’s events, Saturday, November 14.
Head over to Fotoweek Central to take in the exhibits and amazing photographs. While you are there, don’t miss the display of books. Flip through them and make mental notes of the ones you need for your own bookshelves.
This afternoon offers a public portrait project, backyard bird photography tips, photography lecture at the Corcoran, a film screening at the Newseum. You better get started early!
Don’t forget to tell us your experiences. We want to know what worked, what didn’t, and how we can make Fotoweek even better next time!

As FotoWeek winds down, we hope you have had as much fun as the rest of us at the openings, lectures, workshops, and just seeing all of the fabulous photographs throughout the city. Many of the gallery shows will remain open past this weekend, so be sure to check with the individual venues for their exhibit schedules. Don’t forget to pick up your displayed work from last weekend’s NightVisions event on Sunday afternoon at FotoCentral 1, Sunday Nov.15, between 12:00 and 2:45pm.
You’ve got a mid-day film screening, a workshop, and loads of options for your Friday night. Look through the calendar at all of the day’s events and try to fit them all in. After all, there are only two days left…

Hopefully many of you took advantage of today’s federal holiday and visited some of the FotoWeek exhibits around town. I had the opportunity to see the shows at FotoWeek Central locations 1-4, and, if you haven’t yet had the chance, I highly recommend “My Cuba”, curated by Pulitzer Prize Winner Lucian Perkins, located at FW Central 1.
Another very moving collection of photographs is featured in “Thy Brother’s Keeper”, curated by Geno Rodriguez. This exhibit, at FW Central 4, is a story of endurance through which we are all connected by hope.
Also at FW Central 1 are the photographs produced during Saturday night’s all night photo fest, NightVisions. Check out all the shots chosen for display from the over 160 participants of the 12-hour photothon.
For a complete rundown of all FW Central exhibits and Thursday’s lectures, openings, and workshops, look through the complete calendar so you can plan your day and not miss out!

Pixcetera, a collection of online photo galleries, features the best of photography ranging from fine art to current and historical events to nature and fashion. Viewers can browse through the galleries and even manage their own photos. Features are updated daily, and, right now, alongside slideshows highlighting the history and downfall of the Berlin Wall are the FotoWeek DC 2009 winners.
Take some time to view each of the winning photographs, and then get lost in some of the other galleries. Take warning, though, you may lose your entire afternoon…

Over 120 artists had their work reviewed at today’s Portfolio Review at the Corcoran College of Art.
