Through December 17, 2011, all 14 exhibits on view at FotoWeek Central, located in the former Borders store at 18th & L Streets, NW, will be open Thursday* through Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m.

All 14 exhibitions are on view PLUS the new White House Photographers Exhibition.

Admission is just $5.

*FotoWeek Central will be closed on Thanksgiving.

In fact, the recently-launched PartnerPage module gives the partner galleries, museums, and organizations a one-stop shop to post events all year long.  Choose by venue or scroll through the running schedule to find the fun art outings that interest you.  Just this week, Multiple Exposures Gallery offers a free cyanotype demonstration at their gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center on Thursday, November 17 from 7:30 to 8 p.m., Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery hosts Tom Wolff’s U Street Portrait Project: Artist Talk, Photo Critique and Community Potluck this Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and The Katzen Arts Center offers a screening of a selection of films from Puerto Rico’s Division of Community Education from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

We also tried something a little different this year – complete and schedule as many posts as possible BEFORE FotoWeek so we, the writers, could actually participate in the festival (last year I only made it to two events).  Working toward this goal with a finite amount of time prevented us from highlighting every single partner.  So, please take a look through the PartnerPage and get to know each and every one of them – these are local galleries, museums, and organizations that hold art events year-round.

Although the festival is coming to a close this Sunday, FotoDC will continue to bring you the best in photography all year long.  This Saturday night, join us at Local 16 to toast another successful FotoWeek year.

Nom on light fare, sip wine and beer and enjoy photo-projections of the winning and favorite images from the Mobile Phone Contest and the entire collection from last weekend’s NightVisions, all while grooving to tunes from DJ Tom B.

Tickets cost just $15 ($20 at the door) and the party gets started at 8 p.m.  We look forward to seeing you!

Last year, FotoWeek DC recognized the significance of the mobile phone camera by establishing its very own category in the international competition as well as the first FotoWeek Mobile Phone Contest. This year, with the number of mobile phone entries in the international contest nearly 1,000, the integration of this device into our daily lives has grown some solid roots. (Tell me, honestly, just between us…how many times did you use your phone’s camera today? The first thing I did when I got home from work was snap a picture of my lazy dog lounging on the sofa and promptly sent it to Twitter. Even I, who only shoots film, use my camera phone as my digital point-and-shoot – and, it’s the only one I have.)

The FotoWeek DC Mobile Phone Contest is back this year along with several mobile phone-related events and partners including Instant DC, who is on the contest’s judging team and had their very own opening last night.

There’s still time enter AND take photos – Entries are due by noon tomorrow, Friday, November 11.
