Can you believe it’s already time for the Fotoweek competition? After the success of last year, the contest is bigger and better than ever. D.C. area photographers should know they’ve got their work cut out for them, since the competition has officially gone international. The categories have been expanded, as well, now including divisions like “Social Documentary” and “New Media,” which includes storytelling and experimental work.
The jury panel, like last year, has some impressive names. Your photos will be looked upon by such heavy-hitters as Tony Podesta, David Alan Harvey, and Ruth Schilling Harwood, not to mention editors from National Geographic, the White House, and more.
A cool $21,500 in cash prizes will be given out and, new this year, the work will be also featured in a limited edition Fotoweek DC book, as well. Of course, the winners’ work will be displayed during the festival and they’ll be honored during a ceremony at National Geographic Headquarters.
Register to enter the competition here. Get your work in by July 26th for a discount, or meet the final deadline by September 13th.
If you’re a student (K-12), be sure to enter our Youth Contest, sponsored by The Washington Post. It’s free to enter and winners get cash prizes along with publication on the Post’s website, as well as framed and hung at Fotoweek headquarters.
The 2009 FotoweekDC Festival will run November 7-14, and be sure to bookmark this blog for updates, behind-the-scenes info, and coverage of the festival participants. If you’re dying to see some Fotoweek action now, head down to the Newseum where the winners of our FOTOBAMA competition will be exhibited through September 7.
Good luck!
