DESCRIPTION:

In this unique opportunity, three internationally renowned photographers will present their work, giving an insider's view of some of the most exciting photography being produced today. This is the first of two photographers talks organized by FotoWeek and Lucian Perkins. Each photographer will speak for about an hour.

Liza Faktor, a Russian photographer and curator, will show some of the latest photography emerging from Russia and the CIS today.

Lincoln Schatz will show his unique form of participatory art and portraits with his recent project "Portrait of the Violence Epidemic" and his commission to create Esquire Magazine's "Portrait of the 21st Century".

Tim Hetherington's piece "Sleeping Soldiers" was described by Photo District News as "best photojournalism project we can't show you." You'll be able to see his project and hear how he created it.

DESCRIPTION:

On the afternoons of November 7th & 8th, there will be a series of back-to-back lectures from noon to 5pm on a variety of subjects: a primer on the business of photography, a presentation by the Eddie Adams Workshop, Victorian-age stereoscopic photography with 3-D glasses provided, and several well-known Washington photographers will be showing work from cell phone to high-end race car imagery.

DESCRIPTION:

This multi media presentation showcases the work of 9 photojournalists - including 5 professionals (Alex Majoli, Paolo Pellegrin, Brenda Ann Kenneally, Krissane Johnson and Zalmai) and 4 students (Max Bruan, Andy Spyra, Carl Kiilsgaard and Ed Ou) who were selected by teams of industry experts from more than 450 proposals to receive this year's Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography. Grant recipients' projects are discussed in their own voices as their powerful imagery unfolds on screen. The presentation is introduced by Aidan Sullivan, Vice President, Photo Assignments for Getty Images, and includes time for questions and discussion between the audience and grant winners who are able to attend the event.

This is the second set of two photographer's talks organized by FotoWeek DC and Lucian Perkins. Each photographer will speak for about an hour.

Ernesto Bazan lived in Cuba from 1997 to 2006. He will show a multimedia piece about his life in Cuba as well as photographs from his most recent book on Cuba.

Matthew Niederhauser lives in Beijing and primarily documents youth culture and urban development in China. He will show work from his new book, Sound Kapita, about China's Rock Culture.

Iraqi Voices: Lori Grinker and Chris Hondros will show work from Iraq and the refugee exodus from there to other countries. Iraqi journalist Omar Fekeiki will join them for a round table discussion.
